Poland 44 game pics

Postby mluther » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:52 pm

So glad to see this site back up and running. I've missed posting my AARs
This is from a Poland 44 game that I ran twice. The first time was a complete walk over for the Soviets as every card came up for them and nada for the Germans. Second game was much more enjoyable for both players. The King Tigers still 'underperformed'

Once again Mark, very nice! You capture the feel of the Eastern Front perfectly.

Just a quick question about IABSM, does it handle aircraft rules pretty well? I always love seeing your reports, especially when the aircraft come in for a patrol.

Thanks for sharing,

It does allow for air support, which because of the scale is pretty abstract. IABSM is a card driven system. So you put a air support(or one for either side) card in the deck. The way I play it, is when the card is drawn, you then have to roll a six on a D6 (or 5 or 6 if very active air). If that happens, then the planes are over the table. I (or the other players if I am also playing) then decide what they might see to attack. This has resulted in many blue on blue incidents. The rules have guidelines for hittiing the target and weapon effectiveness along with anti-air weapons.
I tend to try to stick the chance of air support in my games because I like to see the planes on the table also.

Thanks for the info Mark!

One of these days I'd like to purchase IABSM, sounds like a fun and flexible ruleset.

Tanner,

I'm running a game this Saturday and using some aspects of the rules that I haven't tried before. The sceanrio is a British assault on some dug in Germans. The Brits have to transverse a large minefield so I'll have some Sherman Crabs and RE troops. I probably play the Germans so it will be interesting to see if they Brits can cross the minefield successfully.

Hopefully I'll have some piccies.

Do you think its possible to play IABSM with just two players and no umpire?

Fenton,

IABSM can be played with only 2 people. I've done it several times and would recommend it for just such numbers. In fact, because units are card activated I would try to keep the number of players under 6. The card system keeps the game pretty honest and even lends itself to solo gaming.

Version 3 is due out soon. It stream lines several items, especially the artillery firing which is a real bear. Beacuse of the tactical scale, it was designed to make arty support something to fear for friendlies and foe.

They have a great forum and the designer answers questions amazingly fast.
